Quick answer
Start with the capacity claim: if an aftermarket 20V pack prints 8Ah or 12Ah, ask for proof before you buy. The genuine DeWalt 20V MAX pack we compare against is the 5Ah DCB205, and the 6 to 15Ah packs we found on DeWalt's site are FLEXVOLT batteries. The aftermarket listings we checked print larger numbers than that on 20V-style packs, and their reviews were often about other products.

What the genuine pack looks like
DeWalt's DCB205 is a 20V MAX 5Ah battery that DeWalt says is compatible with 20V MAX tools and chargers. For more capacity, DeWalt's FLEXVOLT packs (DCB606, DCB609, DCB612, DCB615) are described as 6, 9, 12 and 15Ah and are compatible with 20V MAX tools, switching voltage automatically. See our FLEXVOLT on 20V MAX guide.

The capacity claims, explained
Capacity (Ah) times voltage gives watt-hours (Wh), the figure that tells you how much energy a pack holds. Listings often give mAh instead (8000mAh is 8Ah) and sometimes skip Wh entirely.
Compare what you are shown against what DeWalt sells: 5Ah in the standard 20V MAX pack we checked, and 6 to 15Ah in the FLEXVOLT line. If a listing claims 12Ah in a pack sold as a drop-in for a 20V MAX battery, ask the seller for:
- The cell type and the number of cells.
- A watt-hour rating printed on the pack.
- The pack's dimensions and weight, to compare with a genuine DCB205 or a FLEXVOLT pack.
If they can't answer, the number is advertising, not a spec.
Two aftermarket listings we looked at
We confirmed on 2026-10-06 that both pages exist and match their titles. We are not recommending them.
| Listing | Capacity as printed | Included | What we noticed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eagglew 4-pack | "12000mAh (12.0AH)" | 4 batteries | Some older reviews are for Ni-MH batteries |
| COOMYXIN 2-pack with charger | "8.0Ah / 8000mAh" | 2 batteries + a charger named DCB112 | Reviews include Makita and alarm-system products |

The charger in the second listing uses DeWalt's DCB112 model name but is sold by an aftermarket brand. A name on a listing does not make it genuine DeWalt equipment.
Genuine vs aftermarket checklist
- Reviews. Open them. Look for 20V MAX tools by name. Reviews for other brands, other voltages, or unrelated items mean the rating is pooled.
- Review dates. A product with many 5-star reviews from a single month deserves a closer look.
- Seller and title. A genuine pack names a DeWalt model number (DCB205, DCB606) in its title. A storefront name you don't recognize paired with a generic title is a sign of an aftermarket pack.
- Platform. DeWalt 12V MAX is a different system from 20V MAX. Use the battery compatibility checker to confirm your tool's platform first.
- Seller terms. Read the seller's return and warranty terms. DeWalt's terms are on its own site.
FAQ
Do FLEXVOLT batteries work on 20V MAX tools?
DeWalt says FLEXVOLT batteries are compatible with 20V MAX power tools and switch voltage automatically when changed between tools.
Is a 12Ah aftermarket 20V battery real?
We can't verify it from a listing. The 12Ah DeWalt pack we found on DeWalt's site is a FLEXVOLT model (DCB612). Ask the seller for cell details and a watt-hour rating.
Does a DCB112 charger in an aftermarket kit come from DeWalt?
Not in the listing we checked: the seller is an aftermarket brand using the DeWalt model name.
