Cordless battery compatibility checker

A cordless battery fits a tool only when both belong to the same platform, such as Milwaukee M18 with M18 or Ryobi 40V with 40V. Pick your brand and tool below to see which battery models fit, in the manufacturer's own words.

Compatibility table

Every row comes from the same data as the checker. Batteries listed are models whose capacity a manufacturer page confirmed, not a full catalog.

FAQ

Do DeWalt FLEXVOLT batteries work on 20V MAX tools?

DeWalt says 20V MAX batteries fit 20V MAX tools and that FLEXVOLT batteries are compatible with 20V MAX power tools; the pack switches to 20V automatically.

Can a plain 20V MAX battery run a DeWalt 60V tool?

DeWalt pairs 60V MAX tools with 20V/60V MAX FLEXVOLT batteries for full performance. 120V MAX tools use two 60V packs together. DeWalt's pages do not say in so many words that a plain 20V MAX pack will not run a 60V tool, so we list FLEXVOLT packs only. Check the tool's manual before trying a plain 20V MAX pack.

Do Milwaukee M12 batteries fit M18 tools?

Milwaukee says all M18 batteries are compatible with M18 tools and chargers, including M18 FUEL (brushless). M12 batteries are a separate 12V system. Milwaukee pairs M18 tools with M18 batteries and M12 tools with M12 batteries.

Can I use a Makita 18V LXT battery on a 40V max XGT tool?

Makita says batteries are compatible within their own platform only, for example LXT batteries with LXT products. XGT and CXT packs are different platforms. LXT batteries do not run XGT tools. Makita's ADP10 adapter lets an XGT charger charge LXT batteries; it is a charger adapter, not a battery-to-tool adapter.

Do Ryobi 18V ONE+ and 40V batteries interchange?

Ryobi 40V batteries are a separate platform. Ryobi's dual-platform P137 charger lists 18V ONE+ and 40V batteries as two platforms.

Does the Bosch 12.0Ah GBA18V120 fit every Bosch 18V tool?

Bosch says the 12.0Ah GBA18V120 is not compatible with Bosch non-PROFACTOR tools, so it is left out here. Bosch says recommended and optimized, not required, and states no minimum capacity. The 12.0Ah GBA18V120 works only with the PROFACTOR tools Bosch lists on its page.

Is it safe to use third-party batteries?

The manufacturer pages we read do not cover third-party packs, so we cannot confirm any claim about them. Milwaukee's own M18 page says to use authentic M18 batteries on Milwaukee chargers and not to use third-party batteries or chargers. See our guides on how to read aftermarket battery claims before you buy.
