Quick answer
Don't compare impact wrenches by the biggest torque number on the page, because DeWalt and Milwaukee label their torque differently. DeWalt prints "max fastening" and "max breakaway" figures; Milwaukee prints "fastening" and "nut-busting" figures, and on its smaller models only nut-busting. Pick the wrench by the battery platform you own, then read the labels.

Torque, as each maker labels it
We read each manufacturer's page on 2026-10-07. All are bare tools, so a battery and charger are extra.
| Model | Platform | Anvil | Speed | Torque as labeled | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DeWalt DCF900B | 20V MAX XR | 1/2 in hog ring | 2300 rpm max | Max fastening 1030 ft-lbs; max breakaway 1400 ft-lbs | 7.1 lb |
| DeWalt DCF922B | ATOMIC 20V MAX | 1/2 in detent pin | 2500 rpm | Max fastening up to 300 ft-lbs; max breakaway 450 ft-lbs | 2.85 lb |
| DeWalt DCF923B | ATOMIC 20V MAX | 3/8 in hog ring | 2500 rpm | Max fastening up to 300 ft-lbs; max breakaway 450 ft-lbs | 2.47 lb |
| Milwaukee 2967-20 | M18 FUEL | 1/2 in friction ring | 0-2,000 rpm, 0-2,400 IPM | Fastening up to 1,200 ft-lbs and nut-busting up to 1,600 ft-lbs (with FORGE batteries) | 5.9 lb |
| Milwaukee 2854-20 | M18 FUEL | 3/8 in friction ring | 0-2,400 rpm, 0-3,500 IPM | Nut-busting up to 250 ft-lbs | 2.4 lb |
| Milwaukee 2562-20 | M12 FUEL | 3/8 in friction ring | 0-3,000 rpm, 0-3,300 IPM | Nut-busting up to 550 ft-lbs | 2.2 lb |
| Milwaukee 2563-20 | M12 FUEL | 1/2 in friction ring | 0-3,000 rpm, 0-3,300 IPM | Nut-busting up to 550 ft-lbs | 2.2 lb |
Notes from the pages: DeWalt's pages list no impacts-per-minute figure for the DCF900B or DCF922B. The DCF922B is a detent pin anvil, not a hog ring, so check the anvil type against your sockets. Milwaukee's pages for the 2854-20 and the two M12 models publish only a nut-busting figure, and no Milwaukee page we read uses the word "breakaway".
What the labels mean for you
- Fastening torque is how hard a wrench tightens a fastener. Breakaway (DeWalt) and nut-busting (Milwaukee) describe loosening an already-tight one.
- Those loosening labels come from different makers and can't be assumed equal, so don't treat 1,400 ft-lbs of breakaway and 1,600 ft-lbs of nut-busting as a like-for-like comparison.
- Milwaukee's 2967-20 figures are stated with FORGE batteries. Check the battery before you compare.
- A tool that has only a nut-busting figure tells you nothing about its fastening torque.
Unfamiliar-brand listings
We read these listings on 2026-10-07 and are not recommending them.
| Listing | What it prints | What we noticed |
|---|---|---|
| Seesii 1/2 in. | 579 ft-lbs tightening, 665 ft-lbs loosening, 21V, 2 x 4.0Ah | The spec table says 2.64 lb while the bullets say 5.6 pounds |
| ARCCAPTAIN 1/2 in. | "1500 N.m (1106 ft-lbs)" | The listing applies that figure to reverse only; its own bullets give a lower maximum forward torque of 1350 N.m |
| MAGSEN 1/2 in. | "900 ft-lb (1200 N.m)", 21V, 2 x 4000mAh | No model number printed |

We did not link a DeWalt DCF922B listing: the Amazon page we found for it prints DCF921B instead. We also did not link the Milwaukee 2967-20 listing we found, because its copy was garbled and its torque figures conflicted with Milwaukee's page, or the M12 3/8 stubby listing, which doesn't print a model number. Confirm the model number on any listing before you order.

FAQ
Is the DeWalt DCF900B stronger than the Milwaukee 2967-20?
We can't say. DeWalt prints max fastening 1030 ft-lbs and max breakaway 1400 ft-lbs. Milwaukee prints fastening up to 1,200 ft-lbs and nut-busting up to 1,600 ft-lbs with FORGE batteries. The loosening labels differ, so the numbers aren't a fair ranking.
Do M12 and M18 batteries fit the same wrench?
No. They are separate Milwaukee platforms. See our M12 vs M18 guide.
